MLB All Star Voting

Yesterday, Major League Baseball released the All-Star Game rosters for both the American and National Leagues. As far as players selected, I don't have too many complaints for you. The one thing that I do find bothersome, however, is that two major market teams with strong international (Asian) popularity stemming from foreign players (i.e. Dice-K, Fukodome) absolutely DOMINATED the popular vote. Much akin to how Yao Ming has lead NBA All-Star voting the past few years.

7 Chicago Cubs...
7 Boston Red Sox...

Jason Varitek is batting .216 and over TWO MILLION people voted him an All-Star.

But I Digress...

The real purpose of this blog entry is to vent about 50% of the very straight, very not gay image seen above.
News Flash
Derek Jeter is NOT DESERVING of what will be his 9th career All-Star appearance. DJ will be the starting SS for the American League.
  • Jeter is hitting .281 (career avg .316) which ranks him tied for 8th w/ Erick Aybar among AL SS.
  • D-Gay has 4 HRs, 37 RBI, and 48 R, ranking him 5th, 4th, and 3rd respectively. On the other hand Orlando Cabrera (CWS) has 6HR, 35 RBI, and 52 R, yet is not an All-Star.

His fielding isn't any better.

  • Jeter has committed 8 errors so far this year, and has a .976 fielding %, lower than Cabrera, Michael Young, Edgar Renteria, and Jhonny Peralta. Only 1 of those 4 is an All Star.

Derek Jeter received 3,747,347 All-Star Votes. More than DAN UGGLA, GRADY SIZEMORE, and NATE MCCLOUTH COMBINED. 6th most out of ALL MLB Players. Judging by even this short analysis, he's just about the 6th best AL SHORTSTOP. I'm going back to work...

Jerrard Tarrant

For those of you who aren't as big into following what happens to unsupervised and often intoxicated college football players during the offseason, meet Jerrard Tarrant, 19, a redshirt freshman CB at Georgia Tech. According to a report from the AJC:

Tarrant was arrested Friday on charges of rape and sodomy. He was released Saturday on $40,000 bond. Tech football coach Paul Johnson suspended Tarrant from the team pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. Tarrant, a redshirt freshman, emerged from spring practice as one of two top contenders for a starting cornerback job this fall.

The story went something like this, Tarrant (drunk) meets girl (drunk) at party. The two go back to Tarrants dorm room where rape allegedly takes place. Tarrant maintains any contact was consensual. This is the part that is so bothersome. The victim stated:

"I drank alcohol at the party so it wasn't hard for him to get me to go to his room,"...But once she got to Tarrant's room and he began touching her, she told him to stop because she had a boyfriend...

Seriously???

That's your official statement???

Don't get me wrong for a second here, if Tarrant is guilty of any wrong doing, he's scum and should be locked up. However, if he's not, it's just one of the countless examples of where drinking and trying to get some from a girl with a boyfriend goes wrong.

Lesson: Think with your brain, no matter how poorly it may function, rather than your doogan.
